Mac mini mayhem
Two blog posts in a day is some sort of record I think...
I saw a deal recently that was way too good to pass up: 3GB of RAM for $44. Having struggled all semester with rendering in final cut, I decided to take the plunge. Why 3GB instead of 4GB to get matched pairs? The intel mac minis can only support up to 3GB of RAM due to a chipset limitation.
Whoa, what happened...
One more paper to write and my Fall semester coursework will be over. It's a little crazy to think about. I thought this semester would never end....
I've been really bad about keeping the blog up to date. As such, I've been relying a lot on Twitter to actually prove that I'm alive. What has been keeping me busy this semester?
YAPIMNF™ (Yet another project I may not finish)
I do this all the time. I have these great, crazy ideas for projects that I never finish. This very site is proof of that. Most of the problem is not having enough time to finish anything that I want to do due to work and school. However, I have a project in mind that if everything goes well I can start now, and then continue next semester when I will only be taking the remaining two classes that I need, plus work.
It all starts with the nagging feeling that I want to start cooking for the Internet again. I used to look forward to the Saturday night cooking, Sunday night blogging that allowed me to flex my creativity in the kitchen. I just haven't had time to cook something pretty and then post on the site. However, I have an idea in mind that may prompt me to actually start again.
JFK
Well here I am, taking a much needed mini vacation completely away from San Francisco. Don't get me wrong, I love the city by the Bay, but lately I have been overworking myself to
the extreme.
It comes with the territory, I suppose. After all, I am working nearly full time while being a full time student. It doesn't exactly make for the best in work life balance.
Social Networking
I am fairly certain that if you ask people in my general age range, you will find that most have at least one account on some sort of social networking site. Some would even go as far as to say that they have accounts on more than one. What is it, however, that draws people to these services?
And so begins the three years in exile
It's not really as bad as the title makes it sound. It really isn't. However, it is fairly accurate.
Web design for poor college students (or those on a budget)
Before we get started, I'm going to try to be as platform agnostic as possible. While my main platform is OS X (Leopard. And yes, I need to make that distinction), I also do a lot of my work on Linux and to a much lesser extent, Windows. As a result, my suggestions are primarily for OS X and Linux users, but aside from the text editor I will suggest, everything else is fairly platform agnostic.
Second Cinematography project...with PICTURES!
Every so often I am reminded that I am going to school to learn to make movies...
After much confusion trying to figure out what our group was going to shoot, on the drive out to the Marin Headlands, we came up with a simple concept involving sand dollars, a dolly (as in a camera dolly), and someone walking.
Sounds exciting, doesn't it?
Back from the first Cinematography project
To say I'm exhausted would be an understatement.
I had my first cinematography project shoot today on an Arri S 16mm camera (opens in a new window), as shown on the Film School Student blog I just linked to. Unfortunately I have no pictures of the camera myself, but that's a situation that I will hope to rectify this coming week.
A few ideas knocking around
For a while now, I've been wondering what I can do on my site to provide regular content that would actually encourage readers to come back for more on a regular basis. Due to the hectic schedule I tend to keep (hopefully, only for the rest of this academic year), I don't really have the opportunity to do anything more than what I do currently. With that in mind, I have a few ideas kicking around.
