For a while now, I've been wondering what I can do on my site to provide regular content that would actually encourage readers to come back for more on a regular basis. Due to the
hectic schedule I tend to keep (hopefully, only for the rest of this academic year), I don't really have the opportunity to do anything more than what I do currently. With that in
mind, I have a few ideas kicking around.
While I'm not an instructional design student, by sheer relationship of where I work I've picked up an interest in the use of technology in the classroom. I've always had a
fascination for technology and how it affects people's lives, but now I see how technology can be used to enhance education, which is another pet subject of mine.
To this end, I'm thinking of writing a series of articles on the history of technology in the classroom, ending with an article on where I personally see technology going in the
future, from my perspective not only as a student, but as someone who's job it is to help teachers use the technology for their classes. In doing this I am by no means claiming to
be an expert (as a matter of fact if I do it, I'll add a new section to my footer explaining that I am not an expert, but in a more humorous way), but more of a observer and
participant in having used technology for education. I'm not just talking about online tools, but things like projectors and computers in the classroom, or overheads and powerpoint
presentations and the like.
Of course all of this will mean research, which is a bit ironic considering I don't usually enjoy writing academic papers. However, what I noticed at UEA was that when I was
challenged to write something original and not just regurgitate information, I actually quite enjoyed the process. Besides, if I'm to work at a University, I need to keep my writing
skills up, and what better way to do so than to write something that potentially a lot of people will read and need to understand.
If I decide to do it, I'll post about it on the blog. Perhaps I can use it as an excuse to interview some of you folks in the office. *Maniacal laughter* ...um. Back to your
regularly scheduled program.
Great idea man. You've
Great idea man. You've definitely got some helpful resources around you considering the number of ITEC people we have on staff. When you get it done, you should talk to Kevin, Maggie, et al. I'd be willing to bet that they know an educational journal where you might be able to get it published. Professional development here we come.
